You will need:
Sharp sewing needle
Hen’s egg

1. Hold the egg over the bowl and carefully make a small hole in the pointed end of the egg. Then make a slightly larger hole in the flatter end of the egg.

2. Begin blowing into the pointed end of the egg. Blow harder once the content begins to appear – try pushing a needle in and out of the bottom hole to break up the yolk. Hold the egg lightly. It will crush if you squeeze it.

Painting the designs

You will need:
Paint brushes
Jar of water
Poster paints
Plasticine or blu tac
Old newspapers
Felt tip pens (optional)
Masking tape (optional)

1. Cover the work surface with sheets of old newspaper. Carefully wipe away any egg that may be on the shell.

2. To paint the egg, hold the ends together between your thumb and your forefinger. You can paint directly onto the egg or draw the design first with felt tips.

3. To draw straight lines and patterns, use thin strips of masking tape. Stick them on to the egg where you want the lines to be, then paint the egg. Once the paint is dry then peel away the masking tape.

4. When using lots of colours make sure you wait until one is dry before adding another. To avoid smudging the paint, stand the egg in a piece of plasticine while the paint dries.
