Art and Painting Courses

Skopart

SkopartGreek Light and Landscape with Professor Thomas Xenakis at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts (Skopart)

Study painting with Professor Thomas Xenakis, M.A., M.F.A. to create from Greek light, landscape, in a vibrant, beautiful culture. Participants will work in their choice of painting media such as oils, acrylic, watercolors, gouache, tempera, and mixed media. Incorporating visual art instruction and art making, in a beautiful setting and rich culture is a wonderful combination. We welcome you to experience art creation through Tom's range of knowledge about painting and drawing, Hellenic culture, traditions, and language.

SkopartWe will begin with a short visit to Athens to see the important sites in a 3, 000 year old city. We will venture to Skopelos Island to paint and draw and immerse ourselves in Greek landscape and Greek light. SkopArt will host us in their well equipped studios where painting and drawing workshops will take place. Our mission is to provide a great working environment in an inspirational setting. Thomas is familiar with the language, culture, and environs of Athens and Skopelos with a fine network of Greek artists and community which will enrich the experience. This is recommended to those dedicated to making images in a fabulous relaxing and stimulating setting. Spouses and significant others are encouraged to attend!

SkopartThomas has lived and worked in Greece during two Senior Fulbright Scholarships to Greece as an independent scholar and artist-in residence. He has traveled throughout Greece and has been a faculty member at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in 2005. He is a strong diplomat of sharing culture and he has so in Greece, Italy, and throughout the Balkans. He speaks, reads, and writes Modern Greek in a country where the majority of people know English. Thomas is familiar also with the cultural idiosyncrasies of the Greek island people as well as those in cosmopolitan Athens. He has traveled to all the places the workshop will include in its itinerary including the archaeological sites and neighborhood s of Athens and Skopelos Island and Delphi. Greece is a very modern country that Thomas has dedicated his life to and has integrated it into his personal art work and his academic career. This will be an empowering study abroad living and learning experience!

Price of the course is $1,900 which includes transportation to and from Skopelos, tour to Delphi, entrance to the Acropolis Archaeological site and New Acropolis Museum, all breakfasts while on Skopelos and an opening/closing dinner and exhibition. Items not included are housing, airfare to Greece and additional expenses not mentioned above. Spouses are welcome and can be included in the tours for an additional fee.

Housing can be arranged through SkopArt for as little as 35 euros per night.

All skill levels welcome! For more information contact Thomas Xenakis at txenakis@hotmail.com or visit his Web site: http://www.xenakisarts.com.or: http://www.xenakisiconarts.com.

Painting with Chris Roskell

Painting with Chris Roskell Chris Roskell , studied fine art in the sixties and early seventies, a time when the whole activity of easel painting was hotly debated. Indeed his work towards the end of his time at Art School moved away from conventional painting towards performance when he worked with dancers from The London Contemporary Dance.

He spends his time nowadays either working in his studio at Parndon Mill, on the Essex Herts Borders, creating work for his exhibitions or carrying out specialist decorating commissions, on site, for many famous and influential people around the world.

His mural work is outstanding. Whilst Chris’s recent paintings are abstract he is very well qualified to teach figurative and landscape painting in all mediums. He is a very experienced art teacher. All are welcome in his classes whatever their ability.

Courses run from July to the end of the year, six or five days as standard. We are happy to quote for tailor made courses for groups. Since classes are small, it is possible to give each student individual attention.

The course will focus on landscape painting in all mediums. An indoor studio is available but whenever possible the group will explore the beautiful local scenery either on foot or by car. Basic materials can be supplied but many students prefer to bring their own.

Kit Flynn’s Cottage (our accommodation), on the edge of Mountcollins village, is situated on the West Limerick Scenic Drive on the Cork, Kerry Limerick borders.

Our tutors are all experienced highly trained professionals. We have an indoor studio for painting but where possible we explore the wonderful local countryside.

Kerry airport is 35mins. away and Shannon a 1hr 20min drive, we are easily accessible.
We welcome individual or group bookings. Tailor made courses are available for groups of between 4 and 6 people
A complete, professionally run package of the highest quality, in both accommodation and tuition is our aim.

Enquiries, contact Chris on 00353 69 81931 or 0044 (0)7850084701

Beginners Art Classes with Naomi Blayney

Think you simply can't draw? It's a gift you don't have and never will? Read on...

Naomi Blayney, an artist based in the North East of England, will be running beginner's art classes in Durham from February 2013 and in Newcastle from the spring 2013. Each class is a one-day workshop where you will learn some basic techniques that will give you the tools to create your own masterpiece. You will learn the basics of drawing, developing an 'artist's eye', shading to show shape and form and all about perspective.

Drawing is the foundation of all art and once you've mastered a few basic techniques, you'll find drawing and painting in every medium that little bit easier. You will be given lots of hints of tips that you can take away and practice on your own.

Durham workshops will be held in Palace Green Library, right next to Durham Cathedral in the heart of Durham City. Newcastle workshops will be held at the Knit Studio in the cloister of the historic 13th century Blackfriars Priory in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
